Viega GmbH & CO was established in 1899 with Global Headquarters in Attendorn, Germany.  Viega employs over 2,500 people worldwide, manufacturing and distributing a broad portfolio of products for systems engineering in the building services market.  

 

Seller: Gabo System Engineering GmbH
Gabo System Engineering GmbH employs 140 people from their headquarters in – Niederwinkling Germany. Gabo produces and sells piping systems manufactured from advanced plastics and composites for radiant heating as well as cooling and telecommunications applications.  Gabo was established in 1956 and was acquired in 1997 by Thyssen, ultimately part of the Polypipe, the British plastic specialist.  Polypipe was acquired in 2005 by an investor group led by a leading New York based private equity group Castle Harlan in a transaction valued at $527 million.

 

Transaction Details:
The acquisition of Gabo Systems involved three M&A firms in the IMAP M&A Network working together.  While Gabo and Viega are both in Germany, the decision to sell Gabo was made by Polypipe management in England, assisted by our UK Partner.  The transaction was initiated by Glocap Advisors who approached Castle Harlan in New York with the idea of selling Gabo in a negotiated transaction.  Terms were not disclosed.
