Client and Seller:  General Cable Industries, Ltd.

Based in Berkshire, United Kingdom General Cable Industries, Ltd (“GCI”) manufactured telecommunications, data communications (i.e., category 5), security and energy cables. 

 

Buyer:  The Marmon Group (Marmon Holdings)

The Marmon Group is an international association of more than 100 companies that operate independently within diverse business sectors.  Marmon Holdings was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.B) for $4.8 billion in March 2008

 

Transaction Details:

ACS represented GCI in a sale for a strategic buyer.  With the boom in networked computer systems in the 1990s, The Marmon Group made a strategic decision to acquire companies that manufactured data communications network cable.  GCI was a logical fit for The Marmon Group’s strategy as GCI had a dominant market position in the United Kingdom and easy access to the European Union.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
